The Fremantle Dockers is one of 16 teams in the Australian Football League. It is based in the port city of Fremantle, west of Perth at the mouth of the Swan River. The Dockers joined the league in 1995, eight years after their rival Western Australian football team (the West Coast Eagles), and endured some tough years near the bottom of the premiership ladder before finishing fifth after the home-and-away rounds in 2003, making the finals for the first time.
The Dockers' home base is Fremantle Oval, while most of their home games are played at Subiaco Oval.
Commonly known as simply "Freo", the team's colours are red, green and purple. Its emblem, an anchor, reflects the city's strong maritime links.
