The national flag of Barbados was adopted on November 30, 1966. It consists of a tricolor of two blue bands separated by a golden one in the middle. A black trident head is contained in the golden band.
The trident head symbolizes Barbados independence from Britain (the colonial coat of arms contained a complete trident), and each point of the trident represents a point of democracy. The blue bands symbolize the ocean and the sky, and the golden band symbolizes the sand of Barbados.
