Firing pin



         


The firing pin is a very hard steel rod with a one small, rounded end for striking the primer of a cartridge. When the hammer strikes rear the firing pin, it is driven forward into the primer, causing the impact sesitive primer compound to detonate, which in turn causes the gunpowder to burn, propelling the bullet with gas pressure.
