Fielder railway station, Melbourne
Fielder is a station on the Puffing Billy Railway.
It opened on October 24, 1904, as part of the Gembrook railway line. It
was originally an unnamed platform, with timetables noting a station at 38 miles. On February 5, 1928, it was named Fielder, after a local family. It consisted of only a small metal shelter shed and a name board.
When the Gembrook line was officially closed on April 30, 1954, the site fell into disrepair, and by the 1990s, little trace of Fielder remained. However, by that time, efforts were being made to extend the tourist railway from Lakeside through to Gembrook, which would complete the entire length of the original line. In 1997, the descendants of the Fielder family rebuilt the platform in preparation for the extension of the line.
At present, trains do not normally stop at Fielder.
