Fairport Convention
Fairport Convention is, along with Steeleye Span, one of the defining acts of British folk rock during the late 1960s and early 1970s. The folk influence gradually faded in their later work. The band are strongly associated with the village of Cropredy in Oxfordshire, and organise the Cropredy Festival which takes place there.
The Fairport Convention's best-known songs include "Matty Groves", and their best-received album is Liege and Lief.
In 2002 the band were given a Lifetime Achievement Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
