Erickson's Law

Erickson's Law states that in any discussion about American politics, civil liberties, or the War on Terrorism, it becomes increasingly probable that a participant will state in resignation that "the terrorists have won". At that point, the signal-to-noise ratio in the thread will decrease exponentially.

Erickson's Law is named in honor of an individual who first used the argument form in a Usenet discussion two hours after the September 11, 2001 attacks.
