Epididymitis is a medical condition where the epididymis becomes inflammed and very painful. Urinary tract infections are the most common cause, although it can also be caused by a Gonorrhoea infection.
There are two forms of epididymitis - acute epididymitis and chronic epididymitis. Acute epididymitis is typically treated with a regimen of antibiotics and bed rest. Chronic epididymitis is epididymitis which lasts past the first treatment. Typically, a second, longer round of treatment is used. As a last resort, surgery can be employed.
