Emperor Ojin of Japan



         


Emperor Ōjin (応神天皇) was the fifteenth imperial ruler of Japan to appear on the traditional list of emperors. No firm date can be assigned to this emperor.

He is the oldest emperor historians admit his possibility of existence. Being mixing of Hachiman belief he has been culted as Hachiman Daimyojin, regarded as the guardian of warriors. Minamoto Clan considered him their guardian Kami.

According to Kojiki and Nihonshoki Ojin was the son of the Emperor Chuai and the Empress Jingo. Since Chuai died before Ojin's birth, his mother Jingo became the regent. Ojin was born in 200 in return of her mother from mythological Korean invasion and named Prince Homutawake in birth. He became the crown princein four years old. He was crowned in 270 in 70 years old and reigned during 40 years until his death in 310, although all the dates around his reign have no archeological evident. He lived two palaces both in Osaka today.

He was recoreded as the father of Nintoku, his successor.
