Emperor Go-Sai of Japan



         


Emperor Go-Sai (後西天皇) (1637-1685), also called Emperor Go-Saiin (後西院天皇), was the 111th imperial ruler of Japan. He was a son of an earlier emperor, Go-Mizunoo, although born after Go-Mizunoo had abdicated the throne. Go-Sai became emperor in 1655 after his brother Emperor Go-Kōmyō died. In 1663, Go-Sa abdicated in favor of his younger brother, Reigen.
