Emperor Go-Hanazono of Japan
Emperor Go-Hanazono (後花園天皇) (1419-1471) was the 102nd imperial ruler of Japan. He took the throne following the death of his second cousin Emperor Shōkō in 1428. Go-Hanazono was the great-great-great-grandson of Emperor Go-Fushimi and the great-grandson Suko. The latter was considered to have been an emperor in Go-Hanazono's time but is now officially seen as a pretender. Go-Hanazono reigned until his abdication in 1464, giving him, along with his son, who was also emperor for thirty-six years, the longest reign of any emperor in the historical period prior to Meiji.
