Emperor Fushimi (伏見天皇) (1265-1317) was the 92nd imperial ruler of Japan. He took the throne in 1287 following the abdication of his first cousin, Emperor Go-Uda, and himself abdicated in 1298. Fushimi's lineage is called Jimyōin-tō (持明院統), in contrast to Daikakuji-tō (大覚寺統), the line of Emperor Go-Uda. Following the Kemmu Restoration, these two lineages formed two rival imperial courts, which struggled over control of the throne. Fushimi's heirs, with backing of the Ashikaga shogunate, were eventually victorious, so it is from Fushimi that all the later Japanese emperors descended.
