Emerson College was founded in 1880 as a "school of oratory." It has long been notable for its programs in communications and theatre arts, and currently bills itself as "the only comprehensive college or university in America dedicated exclusively to communication and the arts in a liberal arts context."
It operates radio station WERS-FM and the Cutler Majestic Theatre.
