Elmer Austin Benson



         


Elmer Austin Benson (September 22, 1895March 13, 1985) was an American politician from Minnesota. He was appointed to the United States Senate December 27, 1935 after the death of Thomas D. Schall and served until November 3, 1936. He was elected the 24th Governor of Minnesota in 1936. He served as governor from January 4, 1937 to January 2, 1939. He lost his bid for relection in 1938. He was a member of the Farmer-Labor Party.
