Egas Moniz



         


António Caetano de Abreu Freire Egas Moniz (November 29, 1874 - December 13, 1955) was a Portuguese neurologist and politician. He discovered the (disputed) therapeutic effect of lobotomy, for which he was awarded with Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1949.
