Edwin van der Sar

Edwin van der Sar (b. October 29, 1970 in Voorhout, Netherlands) is a Dutch football player. He is one of the most identifiable keepers in Europe because of his height (1.97 m/6' 5½").

He currently plays for Fulham at club level and has also played for Juventus and began his career at Ajax where he was part of the team who won the Champions League in 1995.

He has represented his national team 80 times and was the goalkeeper during all of three of their recent defeats on penalties in major competitions.

In the 2004 European Football Championship, during the penalty shootout at the end of the quarterfinal against Sweden, he saved a penalty from Olof Mellberg, giving Arjen Robben the decisive chance to end the shootout in the Dutch team's first shootout win ever.

He made his international debut in June 1995 against Belarus.
