Edmund Plantagenet, Earl of Kent from the 28th of July, 1321, (1st creation) was born on the 5th of August, in the year 1301, at Woodstock in Oxfordshire, England, hence he became known as Edmund Woodstoke.
His father was Edward I 'Longshanks', king of England by Marguerite le Hardi, as the youngest of the six princes he enjoyed his fathers favour. Woodstock was married to Margaret (ne) Wake, the daughter of Baron John Wake by Joan, sometime between October and December in 1325 at Blisworth in Northamptonshire, England.
He was from 1327 'after the execution and forfeiture of the 7th Earl' for the three remaining years of his life to hold the castle and honour of Arundel, although he was never formally invested with the titles appropriate to his barony. He was the father of Joan 'The Fair Maid of Kent' one of Kent's hidden Plantagenet treasures.
He died, executed on the 19th of March in 1330, for supporting his brother, the deposed Edward II, by order of the 'Regents Mortimer and queen Isabella', before the outer walls of Winchester Castle, at Winchester (Hampshire).
"Edmund was beheaded for conspiring to rescue King Edward II from prison. He had to wait five hours for an executioner, because nobody wanted to do it".
Woodstock died aged 28, and was buried on the 31st of March at the Church of the Dominican Friars in Winchester, England.
"Margaret Wake was born before the 9th of April, 1283 in Norway, christened in Bourne, Lincolnshire, England, died after 26 Sep 1290 in Orkney Islands,Scotland and was buried in Dunfermline, Fifeshire, Scotland."
Woodstock's execution would appear a retaliation for Edward I'st crushing defeat against Simon de Montfort at the Battle of Evesham in 1265 and because the king had treated his rebellious cousins with such great savagery, pursuing the surviving members of the de Montfort family, relentlessly.
