Dragon of Annam

The Imperial Order of the Dragon of Annam was created on March 14 1886 in the ancient Vietnamese city of Hue, by Emperor Dong-Khanh of the Imperial House of Annam, ancestor of the current Grand Master, H.I.H. Prince Nguyen Phuc Buu Chanh of Vietnam.

The Order of the Dragon of Annam was originally created to acknowledge those who had performed great services to the Imperial House of Vietnam, either through military or non-military contributions to the country of Vietnam.

At times during its history, the Order was also bestowed by the French Colonial Government, and later by the Republic of South Vietnam.

After the re-unification of Vietnam in 1976, the Order was officially abolished, however it was never a communist award and the rights always vested with the Imperial Nguyen Dynasty of Vietnam.

The Order of the Dragon of Annam, is the Real, Personal, and Dynastic property of the Imperial Nguyen Dynasty.

The Imperial Nguyen Dynasty continues to award the Order of the Dragon of Annam to Vietnamese that have made contributions in the area of social and charitable work for the people and country of Vietnam.

In September 2004, the current Grand Master of the Order (recognized by the Monarchist League), H.I.H. Prince Nguyen Phuc Buu Chanh, chose Tran Van Ba as the Chancellor of The Imperial Order of the Dragon of Annam.
