Diseconomies of scale



         


A diseconomy of scale is a situation in which the long-run average total cost increases as output increases. This contrasts with the more well known economies of scale. According to economic theory, a diseconomy of scale occurs when fluctuations in demand expose the inefficiency of large, indivisible units of capital equipment.
