Dipropyltryptamine (DPT) is a psychedelic tryptamine. It is usually found in the form of a hydrochloride salt, which is an off-white crystalline powder, or as a translucent white freebase oil.
When used as a drug, DPT is a very powerful psychedelic entheogen, with onset in minutes and a duration of less than 4 hours. DPT is metabolized by the enzyme monoamine oxidase and is not often taken orally unless combined with a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI), which increases the length and intensity of the experience.
DPT is used as a religious sacrament by the Temple of the True Inner Light, a New York City offshoot of the Native American Church. The Temple believes that DPT and other entheogens are a physical manifestation of God.
