Democracy Now



         


Democracy Now! is an independent, award-winning news program airing on over 240 stations across North America every weekday. It is the flagship national program of the Pacifica Radio network. It broadcasts on Pacifica, community, and NPR stations, public access cable television stations, satellite television (on Free Speech TV, channel 9415 of the DISH Network), shortwave radio and over the internet.

The program was founded at WBAI-FM New York City in 1996 by journalists Amy Goodman, Larry Bensky, Juan Gonzalez, Salim Muwakkil and Julie Drizin. It is primarily concerned with issues of war, democracy, and human rights. The program regularly questions the motives of U.S. foreign and domestic policy, in an attempt to provide an alternative to what it describes as "mainstream" and "corporate" national news coverage.
