Death tax
Death tax is a political slogan used by conservatives in United States politics to refer to the estate tax. A Republican pollster named Frank Luntz recommended that the party use the term in a famous memo (the contents of which were leaked to the press). Luntz found that the term death tax "kindled voter resentment in a way that inheritance tax and estate tax do not" . The Luntz memo went on to recommend that lawmakers hold press conferences opposing the tax at the local mortuary. However, most journalists have not adopted the phrase, and will only report it in the context of a quotation.
