DC++ is a file sharing application which, unlike many other p2p networks, consists of several hubs. Each hub has different rules, but most of them requires the user to share a specified amount of files (so there are no "leeches", users who download from others but no one can download from them), to have a specified amount of download slots (also depends on the user's connection type), not to disconnect those who are downloading from them and to behave in a civilized manner in the main chat window. On most of the hubs the user will be kicked or banned for sharing racist, hate or sick porn material or for sharing fake files (files that not what they appear to be). Some hubs require the user to stay in he hub while downloading, thus preventing one from downloading from several users while no one can download from him/her. Hubs have operators who help the users and make sure that everyone follows the rules, and most hubs also have bots helping the operators' work.
There are many different kinds of hubs, general hubs, hubs dedicated to a certain genre / TV show / singer / group etc., hubs for a country where you are either not allowed to join if your IP is not from that country or you have to specify with a tag which country you are from ([IT] for Italy, [HUN] for Hungary, [DK] for Denmark, etc.)
Most of the hubs are not only places to download but virtual communities where friendships can form and people can have a good time together while waiting for their files to download. Some hubs have trivia games to entertain the users, other hubs have web radio.
DC++ has many different versions, some of them have different names like BCDC and the newest version CZDC.
DC++ is an open source client and completely free of adware or spyware which is one of its advantages. It also has some disadvantages, using DC++ requires some practice, also, some rare files can be found only if the user looks for it in lots of different hubs.
