Daughters of Aaron

The description Daughter of Aaron is given to several women in the New Testament, among them Elisabeth, mother of John the Baptist.

This was a title given to all Kohanim (Levite priests), who always nearly intermarried: a "daughter of Aaron" was thus allowed to wed with Levites.

Aaron, elder brother of Moses, is widely held as the founder of Jewish priesthood, and as such Jewish priests called themselves and were called by others his descendants.

Inscriptions unearthed in Israel dating back to the beginning of the current era sometimes mention someone as being a "descendant of Aaron", this means that this person was a Jewish priest or related to them.
