In the Superman comics, television series and movies, the Daily Planet is a fictional newspaper of Metropolis that employs Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olsen. Its chief editor is Perry White. In current comic book continuity its owner is Bruce Wayne who is really Batman.
When Superman first appeared, its hero, Clark Kent, worked for the Daily Star newspaper under editor George Taylor, the newspaper being named by Superman co-creator Joe Shuster after the Evening Star newspaper in Toronto, Ontario, Canada which had been the newspaper which Joe's parents received and for which Shuster had worked as a newsboy. It is still published as the Toronto Star. When the newspaper Superman comic strip appeared, the fictional newspaper's name was permanently changed to the Daily Planet to avoid a name conflict with real newspapers which had Star in their name.
