Czech Social Democratic Party



         


The Czech Social Democratic Party (Czech: Česká strana sociálně demokratická or ČSSD) is the Social Democrat political party in the Czech Republic. It first became the leader of the governing coalition in 1998, under the leadership of Milo? Zeman, ahd has held that position since then, as of July 2004. It won the elections of 2002 with 70 of 200 representatives in the lower house of the Czech Parliament. Its chairman Stanislav Gross is the Prime Minister in a coalition with two smaller parties, the Christian Democratic Union - Czechoslovak People's Party and the Freedom Union-Democratic Union. Former chairman Vladimír ?pidla resigned in 2004, after surviving a non-confidence vote by few votes.
