Crewe and Nantwich is one of six local government districts in the county of Cheshire, England, with a population (2001 census) of 111,007.
The Borough of Crewe and Nantwich was created in the local government reorganisation of 1974 by the merger of the borough of Crewe (an industrial town), the urban district of Nantwich (a much smaller and wealthier market town), and Nantwich Rural District.
There is also a Parliamentary constituency of Crewe and Nantwich, which has been held since its creation in 1983 for the Labour Party by Gwyneth Dunwoody. Note that the borders of the parliamentary constituency are not contiguous with those of the Borough, as much of the rural area in the west of the borough is not in the Constituency, as neither is the newly built area in the north of Crewe around Leighton Hospital.
(Crewe has the lowest crime rate and highest detection levels in Cheshire (2003 figures)).
