Cordite

Cordite is an explosive made from nitrocellulose mixed with nitroglycerin.

Cordite is capable of explosive combustion and often used as a propellant in large-bore fire arms such as artillery shells.

It was invented by Sir James Dewar of Scotland, though patent rights were vigorously contested by Alfred Nobel.
