The FIFA Confederations Cup is an association football tournament for national teams, held every two years by FIFA. It is contested by the winners of each of the six continental championships, with one or more other teams invited to make up the numbers.
The 2003 tournament was marked by tragedy when the Cameroon player Marc-Vivien Foé collapsed and died during the semi-final against Colombia.

Germany holds the Confederations Cup 2005 from June 15th to June 29th. There are games in Hanover, Leipzig, Cologne, Nuremberg, Frankfurt and Kaiserslautern.

France beat hosts Japan 1-0 in the finals of the Confederations Cup 2001 edition.
The competition brings together the respective champions of FIFA's regional confederations and this year takes on the guise of a "mini World Cup" to be used by national coaches for fine-tuning their teams for the World Cup.
This year's edition was co-hosted by Japan and South Korea who are also hosts for the World Cup finals.
