Computer-assisted dispatch

Computer-assisted dispatch is a method of dispatching taxicabs, couriers, or emergency services by computer.

Computer assisted dispatch systems use one or more servers located in a central dispatch office, which communicate with mobile data terminals installed in the remote vehicles.

Clients call the central dispatch office and request the service; a telephone operator or automated telephone system then enters the information into the computer system, which dispatches the appropriate vehicle(s) to the requested location.

Computerized mapping, GPS, and caller-identification technology are often used to enhance the service by pinpointing the locations of both the client and the most suitable vehicle for serving the client.
