Columbus State University



         


Columbus State University is a 4-year liberal arts college established and administered by the Board of Regents of the state of Georgia in Columbus, Georgia.

Originally opened as Columbus College, Columbus State University, opened as a 2-year junior college in the old Shannon Hosiery Mill on Talbatton Road in 1958. The school opened with 15 faculty members and about 300 students. In 1963, the school moved to it's present location in the north of the city. After growing immensely, the school was allowed 4-year status in 1965 with offerings of masters degrees and specialist degrees being added.

In 1996, the school was renamed Columbus State University in recognition of it's outstanding achievement and standing in the community. The school now offers undergraduate and graduate programs in more than 70 different areas with many of these programs receiving national attention.
