Colostrum



         


Colostrum is a form of milk produced by the mammary glands, in late pregnancy and the first hours after birth. Human colostrum is watery, yellowish and of lower volume than mature milk. It is high in protein, and antibodies but low in fat which human newborns may have difficulty digesting and also has a mild laxative effect which assists the baby to pass its first stools.

Bovine colostrum is also used as a dietary supplement.
