Cleffa is Pokémon #173, a small, extremely cute pokemon that can be found only in Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal. It can be hatched from an egg from a Clefairy or Clefable. It begins with Pound and Charm, gets Encore at Level 4, Sing at Level 8, and Sweet Kiss at 13. It will evolve into Clefairy if you treat it kindly.

This pokémon loves to stick its tongue out and is often seen hanging out with other young pokémon such as Igglybuff. According to the Pokédex, due to its "unusual, star-shaped silhouette, people believe that it came here on a meteor".

Name Origin

"Cleffa" is merely a shortening of the name of this Pokémon's evolved form, Clefairy. There is also an interesting coincidence here, though probably not intentional. As Cleffa, Clefairy, and Clefable are known for their singing capabilities, the word "Cleffa" can be split into "clef" and "fa," both of which are musical terms.

Cleffa's Japanese name, "Pii", is related to the word little, and at only a foot tall, Cleffa lives up to its name.
