Its main town is Salford. Other places include Swinton, Eccles, Pendlebury, Broughton, Pendleton, Worsley, Walkden, Irlam, Cadishead, Wardley, Monton, Barton and Boothstown.
It has a university by the side of the River Irwell called The University of Salford.
