Chūbu (中部地方 Chūbu-chihō) is the central region of Honshu, Japan's main island.
It is located between Kanto and Kansai, and includes the major city of Nagoya as well as long Pacific and Sea of Japan coastlines, extensive mountain resorts, and Mount Fuji.
The region consists of the following prefectures: Aichi, Fukui, Gifu, Ishikawa, Nagano, Niigata, Shizuoka, Toyama, and Yamanashi.
Chubu has three major subregions: Tokai region in coastal area of the Pacific Ocean, Hokuriku region in that of the Sea of Japan, and Koshin'etsu region for the rest.
The region is served by Nagoya Airport, which is located near Nagoya in the cities of Komaki and Kasugai. Chubu International Airport, an airport on an off-shore artificial island, will replace Nagoya Airport's function as a commercial airport in 2005.
