The Chrysler New Yorker name occupied nearly the top rung of Chrysler's car line from the 1950s into the 1990s. Only the Chrysler Imperial outranked it in size and price.
The original New Yorkers got Chrysler's big-block V8 FirePower and later 400 cubic inch B engine.
The Chrysler Fifth Avenue began as a submodel of the New Yorker in 1979.
The last generation of New Yorkers was a front wheel drive and was introduced in 1988 as a twin to the Dodge Dynasty. All New Yorkers and Dynasties were built in Belvidere, Illinois. Production ended on May 28,1993. They were replaced by the Chrysler LH platform cars, the Chrysler Concorde, Chrysler LHS and Dodge Intrepid.
