Christian Goldbach



         


Christian Goldbach (March 18, 1690 - November 20, 1764), was a Prussian mathematician, who was born in Königsberg, Prussia, as son of a pastor. Goldbach studied jura and mathematics. He traveled widely throughout Europe and met with many famous mathematicians, such as Leibniz, Leonhard Euler, and Nicolas I Bernoulli. Goldbach went to work at the newly opened St Petersburg Academy of Sciences and became tutor to the later Tsar Peter II.

Goldbach did important work in the mathematical field. He is remembered today for Goldbach's conjecture.
