Cheboksary (Russian: Чебокса́ры, Chuvash: Шупашкар) is a city in Russia, capital of Chuvashia. It is also a port on the Volga River. The settlement is known since 1469. It received the town status in 1781. Population 453,700 (2004). There is a satellite town Novocheboksarsk about four miles east with population 125,600 (2004).
