Charmeleon (Rizaado in Romaji Japanese) is a Stage 1 fire-type Pokémon that evolves from Charmander at level 16 and further evolves into Charizard at level 36. Like Charmander, Charmeleon has a flame burning at the end of his tail; however, unlike its peaceful basic form, Charmeleon is constantly looking for battles, calming down only when it wins. Charmeleon can attack both with his claws as well as his fiery tail, and is also able to spout flames when excited.

In the Anime

When Ash's Charmander evolves into Charmeleon, its personality changes completely. It becomes a very disobedient Pokémon and only fights when it feels like doing so. The very first way it showed its disapproval of Ash's instructions was when Ash was congratulating it on its evolution. At that time, it breathed fire onto Ash's face.

Name origin

Charmeleon's name is a combination of "Char" and "Chameleon." His Japanese name is probably a pronunciation of the word "Lizard."
