CHMI is a television station owned by Craig Media Inc. and based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It is the newest station to join the A-Channel system, although it is the oldest station in the system. The station went on the air on May 8, 1986 where it was originally branded as the Manitoba Television Network or MTN. The station was originally licensed to Portage la Prairie, Manitoba but focused primarily on Winnipeg. Originally, MTN was not allowed to sell advertising in Winnipeg.

MTN was well-known for its Pulse News, Kids Club, and Prime Ticket Movies, the last of which would carry over to the A-Channel system. Its slogan was "Very independent".

In the fall of 1999, Craig Media moved the station to the refurbished former CN Power House at The Forks in Winnipeg and rebranded the station as A-Channel, joining CKEM in Edmonton, Alberta and CKAL in Calgary, Alberta. The station is no longer referred to by its call letters but as A-Channel Manitoba or A-Channel Winnipeg. This is despite the fact that the "A" in "A-Channel" stands for Alberta, and Winnipeg is not located in Alberta.

The Winnipeg edition of the popular A-Channel morning show The Big Breakfast is hosted in-studio by Jon Ljungberg and remotely by Jimmy Mac.

In 2004, Craig Media announced a deal to sell the A-Channel stations to CHUM Limited. The deal is still pending CRTC approval. If it goes through, CHMI will most likely be rebranded as either Citytv or The New MI.
