Chernivitsi (Чернівці in Ukrainian, Cernăuţi in Romanian, Czerniowce in Polish, Czernowitz in German) is a city in Northern Bukovina, Ukraine.
It was part of the Austrian province of Ruthenia, until 1918, then Romania until 1940, when it was occupied by the USSR. Since 1991, it is part of Ukraine.
