Dr. Cary Middlecoff was a dentist from Memphis, Tennessee who gave up his practice to join what is now the PGA TOUR in the 1940s, a time when the practice would quite likely have promised to have been more lucrative. After an illustrious playing career, he developed a reputation as one of the very best of the early golf television commentators.
