Carl Fontana



         


Carl Fontana (July 18 1928 - October 9 2003) was a jazz trombonist.

Born in Monroe, Louisiana, Fontana was awarded a degree in musical education by the Louisiana State University in 1950. His first break into jazz playing came in 1951 when he was hired to stand in for The Woody Herman Band's regular trombonist, Urbie Green. In 1955 he joined the band of Stan Kenton.

He died in Las Vegas, Nevada aged 75 after suffering from Alzheimer's disease.
