Carl Anderson (February 27, 1945 - February 23, 2004) was a singer and actor. He is best known for his portrayal of Judas Iscariot in the 1973 movie version of Jesus Christ Superstar (directed by Norman Jewison). Other movie appearances by Anderson include: The Black Pearl (1978) and The Color Purple (1985). Television appearances include: Cop Rock, Days of Our Lives, Hill Street Blues. As a recording artist, Anderson released at least nine jazz and soul albums, and appeared on albums by the likes of Stevie Wonder, Peabo Bryson, Kenny Loggins and others. He also performed in stage productions of Jesus Christ Superstar, and the 1997 Broadway production of "Play On!" (a musical adaptation of William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night).
He died of leukemia.
