California State University, Los Angeles
California State University, Los Angeles (often shortened and referred to as CSULA or Cal State LA) is a state-run public university located in Los Angeles (near Alhambra). It is part of the California State University system.
Cal State LA has been considered a working-class college due to the fact that many students are among the first in their families to attend college. The university is surrounded by the heavily working-class and run-down Mexican neighborhoods of El Sereno, East Los Angeles, and City Terrace and also nearby middle-class Chinese American suburbs of Alhambra and Monterey Park.
On February 16, 2004, a Cal State LA faculty member was murdered in her home in Pasadena, California.
