Bundesliga

The Bundesliga (plural: -ligen) (translation: federal league) is the name for the premier league of any sport in Austria and Germany. Used on its own, Bundesliga usually refers to Germany's highest football league.

The Bundesligen are, in Germany and Austria, the elite sporting competitions (leagues) in a given sport. Among other sports, this term is used in football (soccer), handball, basketball, field hockey, rugby, and ice hockey. Usually, the Bundesliga determines the German champions (and/or Austrian champions).

Below the elite division there are, depending upon the organization of the given sport, 2nd Bundesligas (second division) or regional leagues.

In ice hockey the designation becomes 1st Bundesliga as the additive used for the Ice Hockey Bundesliga (DEL), after during the DEL establishment without the designation "bundesliga" first one did and the second highest play class end 1990s used years this designation. (could someone please fix this sentence?)
