The Bundesadler (German eagle, literally "federal eagle") is the national emblem and the official coat of arms of Germany. It is set in the colors of the German national flag: black, red and gold. A black eagle is displayed on a gold colored background with a red beak and claws. The eagle has a long tradition as symbol for Germany. Its current form was determined by President Theodor Heuss on January 20, 1950.
