The Buick Electra was the top-of-the-line Buick model first appearing in 1959, replacing 1958's Roadmaster line. From '59 to '61, there were actually 2 series, the Electra & the Electra 225; the later a reference to it's overall length of 225 inches (earning it the nickname "deuce and a quarter"). From '63 through '76, Buick fielded only the Electra 225 series. After the downsizing of '77 the car no longer was in the immediate neighborhood of 225 inches and the series reverted to 'Electra'.
In 1987 a redesigned FWD Electra debuted, including a performance-oriented T-Type version. Also in '87, 'Park Avenue' became an official trim designation within the Electra series, though it had appeared 'unofficially' as early as 1978. 1990 saw the last of Electra production, as the Park Avenue series replaced it in Buick's catalog.
