Braces
Braces can mean any of the following:
- Tooth braces are devices fitted to the teeth to straighten them.
- In British English, straps for holding up trousers. (in American English: "suspenders" for holding up "pants"). Typically worn by older males, whose waistline is no longer suitable for the use of a belt.
- Leg braces are devices used to keep weak, diseased legs from breaking. Polio left many children needing such devices.
- An alternative name for the "{" and "}" symbols. See Bracket.
