Boy racer

Boy racer is a type of automobile (and the person who drives it) that appeals to younger drivers because of the styling, which gives the appearance of speed and high performance. Examples of such styling are spoilers, wide tires, flared fenders and similar things. Often boy racer cars are small, and it's not uncommon that they are "all show and no go". An example of a boy racer of the old generation is the Ford Escort (the early rear wheel drive versions) while modern boy racers generally are hot hatchbacks as Subaru Impreza WRX, Honda Civic and Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. Movies like The Fast and the Furious have caused additional interest in boy racing.

Americans often use the somewhat derogatory term "rice burner" or ricer to describe the same concept. In Australia, the term Hoon means the same thing.
