The Imperial Clan of Genghis Khan of the Horqin Mongols. It produced a total of 2 Empresses and 3 Dowager Empresses during the Qing dynasty era,from which one subsequently became Grand Empress Dowager after the mysterious death of Emperor Shunzhi in 1661.
During the initial building of the Qing dynasty, the Aisin-Gioro Clan had the tradition of 'diplomatic' marriages with Mongols. Qing rulers would marry Mongol ladies and make them their Empresses and major concubines. The main objective,earning the earnest support of the 49 Mongols banners which are very imperative to the survival of the Qing dynasty.Being the strongest banner,the Manchus were thus anxious to make an alliance with them.Hence,they naturally married women from the ruling clan,the Borjijite clan.
Hence,it is not surprising to note that from Emperor Nuerhachi to Emperor Shunzhi,all the Empresses and major concubines were Mongolians.
Of all,the most famous has to be Empress Xiao Zhuang Wen,whom many historians consider the Mother of the Qing dynasty. An excellent politician who practised the tradition not to interfere in politics,unlike the notorious Empress Cixi. However,when the Qing dynasty required,she rendered her efforts. The younger daughter of Prince Jaisang and granddaughter of Prince Manjusri.
Titles and Profiles of Prominent Borjijite Empresses: 1)Empress Xiao Duan Wen (Jere Borjijite)-Made Empress in 1636,wife of Emperor Huang Taiji. Daughter of Prince Manjusri. Known as a benevolent Empress and the most virtuous of all. Made 'Motherly Empress' Dowager Empress (Mu Hou Huang Tai Hou) in 1643 after the death Of Emperor Huang Tai Ji. She passed away in 1649 (Shunzhi 6th year).
2)Empress Xiao Zhuang Wen (Bumubutai Borjijite)-The Mother of Qing Dynasty. Concubine of Emperor Huang Taiji. Daughter of Prince Jaisang and niece of Empress Xiao Duan Wen. Made the 'Enlightened Mother' Dowager Empress (Sheng Mu Huang Tai Hou) in 1643 after Emperor Huang Taiji's death. She passed away in 1688 having helped Emperor Shunzhi run the country till his death and Emperor Kangxi for 25 years of his reign.
